The purpose of this site is to provide information, activities and resources to help families support early literacy at home. The National Reading Panel Report (NICHD, 2000) describes five essential components of reading instruction. We have organized our resources based on those components so that you can navigate the information based on the specific needs of your child.

The Alabama Literacy Act was signed into law on June 10, 2019 and became effective September 1, 2019. The law states that all 3rd grade students (with a few “good cause” exemptions) shall demonstrate sufficient reading skills for promotion to 4th grade.
