Dr. Laura Junkin became the principal of Oak Mountain Intermediate School in the summer of 2020 and is excited to serve as principal. Previously, she served as the assistant principal at OMIS for five years. Dr. Junkin began her career in education in 2002 and has served as a Magnet School Coordinator in Texas, taught fifth grade at Vestavia Hills Elementary Central, served as an Elementary Math and Science Specialist with AMSTI, and as the assistant principal at Gardendale Elementary School in Jefferson County. Dr. Junkin holds a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Samford University. Additionally, she received her bachelor's from the University of Oklahoma, a master's degree in Elementary Education from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, a master's degree and an Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Dr. Junkin is married to Kendall Junkin and they have three sons, James, John, and Joseph. Dr. Junkin is dedicated to ensuring all students are successful and prepared for the future.
