MHS Library Vision/Mission Statement

To inspire a lifelong love of learning and reading by providing students with high-quality resources, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment, and promoting critical thinking skills.

The Library Media Center offers a large, and growing collection, of fiction and nonfiction books, digital devices, and ample workspace. Resources are available to all students, faculty and staff at Montevallo High School.

Meet Our Library Media Specialist

Brantley

Jordan Brantley

Mrs. Brantley is a graduate of Montevallo High School and began teaching world history at MHS in 2010. This is her 15th year at MHS and 2nd year as the Library Media Specialist. Mrs. Brantley earned her B.S. in Social Sciences, M.Ed. in Secondary Education and Ed.S. in Instructional Technology from the University of Montevallo and her K-12 Library Media Certification from the University of South Alabama. Mrs. Brantley loves working with students and teachers at MHS and is available to all instructional partners for co-teaching/collaboration. 

Mrs. Brantley enjoys spending time with her husband, two young children, and friends as well as reading, and traveling.

Library Policies

Book Checkouts

  • Books may be checked out for three (3) weeks at a time.

  • Students may check out up to three (3) books at a time.

  • Audiobooks and e-books are available through Sora by Overdrive (locate Sora using Clever).

Fines & Overdue Books

  • Please visit the library to renew your book if the due date is approaching and you are not finished.

  • Students will be charged for damaged or lost books.

  • The ceiling date for all books to be returned is the Friday before exams begin.

Copies

  • Black & white copies that are needed for class are free to students.

  • Students must print from the desktops in the library (printing is not available directly from Chromebooks). 

  • Color printing is available with discretion. Please see Mrs. Brantley in the library.

The Alabama Virtual Library provides all residents of Alabama with 24/7 online access to premier library and information resources free of charge.

Destiny

Destiny Discover can be used to digitally search MHS's library catalog.

Sora

Shelby County Schools is excited to announce Sora, a digital platform offering students access to eBooks and audiobooks. With Sora, students are able to explore a wide range of engaging educational materials curated specifically for their grade levels by Shelby County Schools  librarians. Students have access to Sora on their school-issued devices via Clever. Shelby County Schools' Sora accounts are not associated with digital resources available through the public library system.
