Oak Mountain Middle School Library

OMMS Library Vision Statement:

The Oak Mountain Middle School Library is a welcoming and inclusive space where every student is valued and encouraged to explore the joy of reading. We are committed to fostering a diverse collection that reflects our community and the world, ensuring that all students see themselves and others in the stories we share. Through active collaboration with classroom teachers, we integrate library resources with the curriculum to support academic growth and critical thinking. Our mission is to inspire a lifelong love of reading, cultivate curiosity, and empower students to become informed, empathetic, and engaged global citizens.

Library Hours: N/A for the 2024-2025 school year while the library serves as the Choir room.

Circulation Procedures: Use Destiny to place books on Hold & our library aides will deliverthem to your ELA teacher!

Student Check Out: Two books at a time for two weeks. Items may be renewed. 

Faculty Check Out: DVDs & Equipment must be reserved by email.

Meet our Librarians

Mrs. McCaleb

Mrs. McCaleb is starting her fourth year at OMMS after teaching 8th Grade Science at Pizitz Middle School for 9.5 years. She holds a Master's Degree in Library Media from The University of West Alabama and a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary General Science from Auburn University. (War Eagle!) 

Mrs. McCaleb has a husband, two boys, and two cats. She loves to bake, play Magic The Gathering, board games, watch anime, read, and hang out with her family! 

Mrs. Howton

Mrs. Howton is starting her eleventh year at Oak Mountain Middle School after serving as a Librarian at Pinson Elementary School in Jefferson County for three years.  She holds a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from The University of Alabama and a Bachelor’s Degree in Collaborative Education from Samford University.

Mrs. Howton has a husband and two little girls.  She loves to sew, quilt, bake, sing, dance, and of course…read!
