Suggest a book you think we should have

Listen to free audio books or search for books to check out from the Shelby County Public Library. You do not need a library card (just a phone #) for ebooks or audio books. Visit Roy Downs Memorial Library to get a card to check out physical books. 

Library Procedures: 

  • All students must have a Pass from a teacher when coming from a classroom.

  • All students must sign-in on the iPad at the circulation desk when they enter.

  • No cell phone or ear bud use in the library.

Circulation Policies:

  • Students may check out books for a period of 2 weeks. (Books may be renewed if not on HOLD.) Late fees will be charged at a rate of $0.10 per day after the due date.

  • Students may check out up to 2 books at a time.

  • Students may not check out a book if they have an overdue book or owe a fine.

  • Students will be expected to pay for any lost items or any items that are returned damaged.

  • Faculty check out : Unlimited time as needed for books. DVDs and Equipment should be returned as quickly as possible in consideration of other faculty who may need them.

We have many commonly used school supply items available for purchase in the library.

Computers

The library has 10 desktop computers and 15 chromebooks for use within the library.  

Printers

Students can print using the library resources. The charges are $0.10 per page for the black & white printer and $0.50 per page for the color printer. (ACT Admission Tickets may be printed for $0.25.)

Copier

Student copies via the copy machine are  $0.10 per page.

Laminating

Student lamination is  $0.25 per foot or $0.25 per pouch.

About Us

Ms. McPhail has been at Calera High School for 9 years. She is originally from MS and was an elementary school librarian before coming to CHS. Her favorite things include reading, competing with her daughter in Scrabble and the Wordle, telling dad jokes, Hallmark movies, and her cat, Chester.

Mrs. Rosenow has been at Calera High school for 6 years. She is originally from Pelham and was a math teacher before coming into the library. Her favorite things include reading, cross stitch, Pokemon Go with her husband, concerts with friends, and napping with her dogs & cats.
