Principal Debbie Horton

Mrs. Debbie Horton became the principal of Oak Mountain Elementary School in December of 2011. Mrs. Horton has been in education since 1990. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Auburn University, Master of Art Degree in Elementary Education from UAB and a Master of Art Degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from UAB. She began her teaching career in Midfield City Schools where she taught 6th grade reading and then 2nd grade for four years. In 1997, she and her family moved to Shelby County and she began teaching at Valley Elementary, where she taught 5th grade and 2nd grade. Prior to becoming principal of Oak Mountain Elementary School, Mrs. Horton served as Assistant Principal of Valley Elementary School and Valley Intermediate School.

Mrs. Horton is married to Kevin Horton. They have three daughters, Taylor, Mary Kate and Hannah. Mrs. Horton is dedicated to providing a rich academic environment that will prepare the children of Oak Mountain Elementary for whatever their future may hold.

Asst. Principal Leslie Marshall

Mrs. Leslie Marshall began serving as Oak Mountain Elementary School's Assistant Principal in July of 2012. This is her 24th year in the field of education. She taught grades 3rd through 6th for 22 years with the majority of her teaching experience in Hoover City Schools. She served as a math facilitator and new teacher coordinator while working as a classroom teacher, as well as led numerous school and district professional development sessions. She is a National Board Certified Middle Childhood Generalist. She also received the Teacher of the Year Award at Bluff Park Elementary, was named a Jacksonville State Teacher Hall of Fame State Finalist, and received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

Mrs. Marshall has been married for 25 years to Rod Marshall. She has two adult children, Anna Leigh and Will. She considers it a honor and privilege to serve the children and families in the Oak Mountain community.
