Chelsea Park Elementary opened its doors in January of 2007. Living so close to the school, becoming principal of Chelsea Park Elementary was indeed “a dream come true!” I am a native of Birmingham and currently live in the Highland Lakes area with my husband Dave, who is an architect. We both love gardening and traveling and absolutely love living and working in Shelby County—especially in Chelsea! Dave is a graduate of Auburn University and I am a graduate of the University of Alabama. Needless to say, this does cause television football viewing issues during the fall!
My teaching career includes Birmingham City, Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School, and Cahaba Heights Elementary in Jefferson County. Teaching for me was never a job, but rather “a calling.” After spending 19 years teaching in kindergarten, first, second, and a special class, I then served as an assistant principal at Gardendale Elementary and Cahaba Heights Elementary. Prior to coming to Chelsea Park Elementary, I served as principal of North Highland Elementary in Jefferson County for six years.
My secondary educational background began with a B.S. Degree in Human Development and Family Life from the University of Alabama. I then completed my M.A. Degree in Early Childhood Education from UAB. After teaching for several years, I completed an Administrative Certification from UAB, and then went on to obtain my Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from UAB. I completed my doctorate degree in Educational Leadership from UAB in 2006, just prior to coming to Chelsea Park Elementary.
My goals for the students of Chelsea Elementary include the following:
We invite you to come visit us to see for yourself what a great school we have here in the “Park!”
My name is Mary Anderson, and I love working as the assistant principal at Chelsea Park Elementary. I truly feel like education was my calling from the time I was a little girl, so I began my career as an elementary school teacher after graduating with my Bachelors of Science in Education from Delta State University in Cleveland, MS in 2002. A few years later, I returned to Delta Sate University to further my education by earning a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership. I taught elementary school for seven years prior to becoming an administrator. Prior to moving to Alabama at the end of 2013, I served as the principal of Parks Elementary in Cleveland, MS for three years. My family and I live in Chelsea, and we are excited about what the future holds for us here in Shelby County. I look forward to working with all of the teachers, staff, parents, and students to ensure a successful school year.
